You know that saying: "It's not about the destination, it's about the journey." Well, I find that to be very true in a lot of situations, including our spontaneous journey to find this restaurant! However, in this case, the destination was just as important as the journey because I think we discovered something great here at Antojito's.

Quick story; my room mate and I were trying to decide where to eat one afternoon. As per usual, we were both very indecisive and couldn't decide on a place to eat. I was craving Mexican and mentioned that hoping it would narrow down our choices. We ended up agreeing on Sabor Latin Cuisine, which specializes in Peruvian, Argentinian, and Mexican food. As we drove down there, I was already planning on what I was going to order. However, when we arrived, to our surprise and much disappointment they were closed! "Now what??" we exclaimed. It was as if the world was going to end. After a quick Yelp check, we found a nearby location of a Mexican restaurant. And, you guessed it, that nearby restaurant was Antojito's Mexican Food.

As we walked in, we could tell that this was a pretty big restaurant space. Despite being so spacious, all of the tables were placed more to the front closer to the front counter. Their menu, which is displayed on the front wall above the counter, has vibrant pictures making it easy to know what each item looks like. After taking a second to decide, we went ahead and ordered their Sopes, Camarones Rancheros, and Chile Rellenos. We then sat ourselves at a nearby table. As we waited, we were brought chips and salsa to munch on. Soon after, our food arrived and we were excited to fill our empty bellies.

The Sopes, which to me resembled an open face taco with a thick and crispy tortilla supporting all of its' toppings, were crunchy and quite the mouthful! The sauce it came with was a great addition as well. The Camarones Rancheros was very flavorful and even had a nice spice to it. It also came with homemade tortillas. Plus I love shrimp or any shellfish for that matter. Lastly their Chile Rellenos was nicely battered and essentially had everything I look for in a Chile Rellenos. Each dish was served with refried beans and rice. Everything tasted great and just with the two of us, we were able to clear most of the food we ordered.

Antojito's Mexican Food is a simple restaurant that serves excellent Mexican cuisine. I, personally, don't know what makes Mexican food truly Mexican, but as I sit here reading other peoples' reviews, there is one recurring word that makes me believe Antojito's is doing something right. That word being Authentic. Although we didn't intend to dine here at first with Sabor being our first pick, but I assure you, our next visit here will be one hundred percent intentional.

Had dinner here tonight and the food was really tasty!  Also loved the tortillas, Yumm! The beer on draft was deliciously cold.  The customer service really gets the high grade.  I feel bad there weren't many other customers here.  I hope it survives. Please stop by for great food, excellent service and decent prices.

Large Mexican restaurant tucked away in a lost and forgotten corner of a strip mall that once housed Mervyn's. The only way this restaurant survives is that they serve good Mexican food. I ordered the special, "Beef cooked in it's own juices," it was good but didn't wow me. Chips and salsa were decent, maybe a little watery. If I could, I'd probably rate this place more of a 3.5 star than 4 but with good service, I'll bump them up.

I really like this place and I eat here a lot. I primarily order the molcajete, it's pricey at $25 but worth it. Are other places better, yeah. But I love their take on it and the homemade tortillas are delicious! They usually add steak, pork, chicken, zucchini, cheese, and jalapeños and it's plenty for 2 or 1 with leftovers for lunch. Great rice and beans too. They have daily specials a few days a week, like $1 tacos or tamales, or $8 caldos. On taco Tuesday you can even upgrade to hand made tortillas for an extra .50 cents making them $1.50! Only thing I haven't cared for is the al pastor, which is usually my favorite. My go to meats for tacos are cabesa, carnitas, and the carne asada. Family run and sweet people too! Come here and order something with the homemade corn tortillas!

Amazing Mexican food! We stopped on our way from Reno to Tahoe and I am so happy we did. We split the enchiladas, tacos and pozole. Everything was fresh and homemade. The waiter was excellent and accommodating - he added avocado to the tacos for us and walked us through his favorite dishes as well. High recommended!
